The Alonso and Pedrajo families joined forces in 2011, with their first harvest in 2013. Their vineyards are located in the western extreme of Rioja, in the foothills of the Obarenes mountains. This rosado is a blend of 50% Viura, 25% red Garnacha, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% other varieties. Fruit from four plots on sandy and clay soils was destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts and macerated with skins for 12 days. Maturation on the lees for 13 months in French barriques with a further 15 months in bottle before release. David Williams: A nutty nose seems more like an orange wine than a rosado, as does the colour. Mouthfilling and savoury, with lots going on: a mere hint of tannic grip, plenty of apple and some dried citrus pith on the long, lingering finish. Matthew Forster MW: Onion skin colour, hightoned aromas. Blackcurrant leaf and pine resin, nutmeg and coriander seed. Esoteric. Diana Rollan: Oxidative and complex nose with notes of quince, roasted almonds and orange peel. Fleshy and savoury, with balanced vibrant acidity and a saline finish.
