And as I never tire of pointing out, if you like old school wines that are built-to-age, these are for you,” says Allen Meadows from Burghound, and we agree! This Chardonnay comes from 45-year-old vines; the winemaking is done with minimal intervention, and the wine is then aged 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, 60% new. The wine is surprisingly fresh and eminently drinkable, with notes of pear, toasted hazelnut, sesame seeds, stone fruits, and a touch of vanilla.
