Have you tried red Vinho Verde before? While many associate it with a white, slightly spirtzy, refreshing wine, about 15% of the production is in fact red! Made from the indigenous grape Vinhao, “Explosivo” is an organic Vinho Verde Tinto that is crunchy, fruity, and bright. Grapes are hand harvested, undergo carbonic maceration and are fermented/aged in stainless steel. Lovers of Gamay, Cabernet Franc, and Barbera will go wild for this Portuguese oddity. We tasted crunchy, brambly raspberry, underripe blackberry and earthy tones on this charming, low alcohol red. Chill it down and pair with slow roasted pork or grilled chicken sausages.
