Giodo Description
This is the new wine by consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini, who rose to prominence in Montalcino about ten years ago when many wineries had adopted a more extracted, powerful and international style of winemaking. Ferrini was their champion and he consulted for nearly half a dozen wineries in the region at his professional peak. All that changed in the years following the painful Brunello scandal. In its wake, many producers started to veer towards a more feminine and elegant approach to Brunello. Ferrini stepped back for a few years and has now returned to Montalcino with a very small wine project of his own. His tiny vineyard (about 1.5 hectares) produces just 3,000 bottles (or 250 cases). Given that limited quantity, Ferrini has not really presented his wine in any formal fashion and he is reluctant to send samples for review.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
Exhibits a strong Sangiovese character, with cherry, earth, iron and leather aromas and flavors. Solidly built and nicely balanced, leaving an aftertaste of savory cherry, iron and tobacco accents.
