Fruit for this ‘village’ (aldea, in Gallego) wine comes from multiple old vine plots across Ribeira Sacra. The blend is dominated by Mencia and was vinified with 40% whole clusters. The wine is just the way we like it: stemmy, peppery, and driven by flavors of red fruit, pomegranate, and fresh cut herbs. Serve chilled and savor amongst friends.
A blend of Mencía and local grapes from different south-facing vineyards, where vines average 60 years of age. Altitude here varies between 400-600m, and like other Lousas wines, the grapes are foot-stomped and fermented with 40% whole-clusters in a small open vat. Tiny quantities of this wine are made. Like the other Lousas wines, it is marked by extreme purity, lifted aromatics and delicious savouriness. It’s a shame there’s little of it, but that makes it all the more special.
The 2020 Lousas Viñas de Aldea is slightly higher in alcohol and has less freshness than the 2019. It was a very early harvest (September 2nd to 14th), and they kept 20% of the wine in concrete and the rest in oak barrels and 2,000-liter oak foudres for 11 months. The grapes were very small, so the ratio of juice to skin was different from 2019. The wines from 2020 had less maceration and more stems; they have more bones but are still fluid, with some dusty tannins. 22,500 bottles and 400 magnums produced. It was bottled in November 2021.
