Pierre produces just two barrels from gnarled 85 year old vines giving a tiny yield, from the fine lieu-dit of Le Charlemagne, the true heartland of this legendary appellation, on a south-west facing slope with white colored marl and small chalky stones overlying a hard limestone base. The fermentation is slow and steady in two old fûts followed by 18 months of maturation, as Pierre has always found that this climat benefits from longer ageing. A stunning Grand Cru; a wine with density and yet finesse, with marked salinity and so much class.
