Paitin is one of the oldest wineries in Barbaresco. They consider 1796 their founding but their roots in the area date back even further. This elegant Langhe Nebbiolo is essentially a declassified Barbaresco, as it comes from the younger vines/cooler parcels within their famous estate vineyard called Serraboella. This is an amazing value and easily held its own when tasted against a Barbaresco and Barolo more than twice its price. Fresh red fruits show prominently, but also dried cranberry, hibiscus and red licorice. Tannins are fine and well integrated. This wine scores big for its aromatics, fruit purity and high quality/price ratio.
The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Starda is a soft, fruity wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, spice and rose petals lend considerable nuance to this attractive, mid-weight Nebbiolo. Sandy soils yield an especially aromatic red.
