Sandlands is the personal project of Tegan and Olivia Passalacqua; Tegan is the director of winemaking at Turley Wine Cellars. An intentional blend of three varieties and three vineyards in three equal parts, this wine is composed of Cinsault from the Bechthold Vineyard (1886), Carignane from Spenker Ranch (1900) and Zinfandel from Kirschenmann Vineyard (1915). Delicious, complex red blend with brisk acidity and just the right amount of tannins. Lots of structure and depth as well. Think Beaujolais or a beautifiul bistro wine. Crushed flowers, cranberry, black tea, apricot, sweet tobacco, herbs, and earth. Superb with red wine braised short ribs.
The 2022 Red Table Wine (Lodi) is a blend of equal parts Spanker Carignane, Bechtold Cinsault, and Kirschenmann Zinfandel. That combination of sites works so well. Aromatic, pliant and wonderfully persistent, the 2022 is superb. It's really an Ode to Lodi. Deep and structured, with tons of character, the 2022 is exceptional in every way and at this price? Absurd.
