Stein Striehween Riesling 2018 (375ml)
The process for this "straw wine" involves drying the picked grapes on straw mats. This process is very old, at least dating back to Roman times. Illegal in the Mosel for many years, Ulli Stein led the charge to bring this type of wine back to his region. The result is a stunning, delicious example of cultural preservation. In this vintage, 2018, Stein was only able to make around 160 liters, some 400 half-bottles. For all of the unctuous density of the wine, the shocking part of this wine is its restraint, its elegance, its brightness. There is that honey-tinged everything, dried stone fruits and raisins, a whole garden's worth of perfumed flowers, but also a saline-tinged ripeness that feels livelier with every passing moment.
