Quite bold and oaky with plenty of weight and richness, this 2019 riesling GG is on the edge of massive and has a touch of butter-caramel (from malolactic fermentation?) Either you like this style or you don’t, but we find this to be a rather impressive wine. Long, lemony finish. Drink or hold.
This has developed nicely, showing a sense of openness with its nutty flavors upfront, until the alluring mix of orchard fruit, peach and lavender take over. It is nicely structured, with elegantly integrated acidity that keeps it all together and leaves a mouthwatering impression on the finish.
The 2019er Pechstein Riesling GG, as it is referred to on the consumer label, shows a superbly expressive and aromatic nose of ripe yellow fruits, some buttery elements, a hint of toffee, apricot, and coconut cream. The wine coats the palate with intense and ripe flavors of honeyed yellow fruits and leaves a straight and nicely focused feel in the very long and fully dry-tasting finish. There is still some tartness at play in the aftertaste. This ripe expression of dry Riesling is therefore still best left alone for another few years. 2023-2027.
