Joseph Phelps Description

To preserve fruit conditions, grapes were picked under lights each morning, followed by hand-sorting before being gravity fed to tank for a long natural fermentation using an overall average of 22% whole clusters in the final blend. Regular punch downs produced a textured wine with elegant structure and a Freestone spice characteristic that is distinctive to this region of the western Sonoma Coast.

The 2014 Pinot Noir showcases aromatic red fruit, fragrant violet and savory spices. Fresh and focused on the palate with concentrated red raspberry and cherry, currant, baking spices and a hint of smoked meat. Nicely textured with firm acidity and a lingering finish.

James Suckling: 95 Points

Lovely energy to this with lavender and rose petal with strawberries and raspberries. Slate and stone undertones. Minerality. Seaweed. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy tannin's. Fine texture. Fresh at the end. Tension in the finish. Drink or hold.

Robert Parker: 94 Points

The 2021 Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyards is primarily estate fruit, with 16% purchased from growers. Vinified with 8% whole clusters, it was matured for 13 months in 33% new French oak. It has alluring aromas of cranberry, pomegranate sauce, woodsmoke and undertones of earth and spice. The medium-bodied palate has a silky texture, focused freshness, a concentrated core of savory fruit and a long, ethereal finish.
